Why choose Barnardo's?

Making the decision to take part in a Challenge Event can be difficult: it is not as simple as just signing up to attend an event. You will have to spend your time training and fundraising for your challenge.
It is important that you can feel motivated by the cause you are supporting. With so many charities out there to choose from, we wanted to tell you a bit about what your support of Barnardo's might do.

What Barnardo's does

Barnardo's believes in children regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour.

Whatever the issue, from drug misuse to disability; youth crime to mental health; sexual abuse to domestic violence; poverty to homelessness; Barnardo's believes we can bring out the best in every child.
We run more than 800 projects around the UK, working directly with over 200,000 children, young people and their famillies every year.

With the right help, committed support and a little belief, even the most vulnerable children can turn their lives around.
Money fundraised for Barnardo's has:

  • helped Louisa and Polly to escape from domestic violence
  • supported children with disabilities like Matthew
  • supported young carers like Lucy
  • and helped children in trouble like Blaise.

In their words

Daley Thompson, CBE is the Barnardo's Challenge Events patron. Here's why he supports Barnardo's:

Barnardo's Challenge Events Patron - Daley Thompson CBE

Just like Barnardo's, I believe in children - all of them. The shy and quiet ones, the cheeky ones, even the ones who try to test everyone's patience. Because, when you put aside all the negative press, you're left with one fact - they're children, young minds who are trying to find their way in the world.

Children shouldn't be categorised as 'difficult' or 'troublemakers', they should be encouraged to believe in themselves. Only then can they ever hope to turn their lives around. That is why I wholeheartedly support Barnardo's work, and doing a Challenge Event is your opportunity to do the same.
