Action with Young Carers Wirral
Supporting young carers and their family
Barnardo's Action With Young Carers is commissioned to ensure that young carers and young adult carers up to the age of 18 are identified and can receive a carers assessment under the statutory duty of Wirral Council.
We work within a whole family approach to reduce the negative impact of caring by accessing support for the young carer and family members where there is an identified need.
Who is a young carer?
A young carer is defined in law as a 'person under 18 who provides or intends to provide care to another person'. This includes 'providing practical or emotional support' (Children and Families Act 2014).
Action With Young Carers Wirral works with young carers who are caring for a family member who has a physical illness/disability, mental ill health, sensory disability or has problematic use of drugs or alcohol.
